Chapter Twenty Two: In search of THE TRUTH!

“There isn’t much to say about the truth, because people all take that to mean something else. Generally the truth is simply what people believe. Now naturally there are a lot of philisophical wankers who are so concerned with the source and beauty and simplicity of the truth, but how many people have actually changed their minds. Its much easier to just unquestioningly accept everything. Isn’t it?

“And who decides whats just, whats funny, whats even real? You do, of course. I mean you dont decide it for me, i decide it for me. So, in the end it doesnt matter. The truth is just a social lubricant to make it easier to get along with the people you know. You dont always have much choice in that, your acquaintances, your friends, anything of the sort.

“We’re all just maggots, eating the decaying intestines of some bigger animal, but the difference is that its the carcass of what we created, we aren’t building it up, just trying to eat the dead parts, thin the herd. Who knows what makes these supplies, this pile of crap that we need to live, and each one of us finds the truth or the necessity in what it is we have to do just to get that. These supplies come down to us. Like the arteries of society. When the food dries up, when we run out of supplies, yknow we just scramble on to the next source of food if we can, but if we live off the corpose of some big, unseen animal that is contiunally dying, what happens to us when we die?

“Maggots turn into flies, they are born in shit and spend the rest of their lives being more efficient shit eaters. Where is out metamorphosis, what bigger, nastier thing do we make when we are first done eating?

“And somewhere in that, is the truth. There are smaller truths, there are truths about who is sleeping with whom, that you should try real hard not to kill someone who looks like you, that you shouldn’t eat your shit. There is a larger truth here, though, one that might be escaping us, maybe whatever this beast we have created that we can’t see, that is somehow bigger than us, than what we can perceive.

“But that truth is unreachable.”
